Le Niger connaît régulièrement des épidémies de grande ampleur. Son système de surveillance reposant sur du papier et les difficultés de faire circuler l'information dans des situations précaires entraînent de longs retards dans le signalement des alertes épidémiques. Les équipes d’intervention de MSF ou du ministère de la Santé arrivent ainsi souvent trop tard et n’ont que très rarement une image claire de la situation sanitaire ce qui rend difficile une intervention et des actions de prévention efficaces.
Or, l'identification précoce d'une épidémie de maladie infectieuse permet une réponse ciblée plus rapide qui vise à limiter la transmission de la maladie, et ainsi à réduire, grâce à une prise en charge plus rapide, la mortalité. Pour pallier ce manque, La Fondation MSF et ses partenaires ont renforcé les systèmes de surveillance existants - communautaires, périphériques, régionaux et nationaux - en développant puis déployant au Niger deux systèmes d’alerte sous forme d’applications : Alerte-Covid19 et Alerte-Niger. L’objectif est de lutter contre les épidémies en améliorant le système de détection et de remontées des alertes.

Alert Epidemic

Niger regularly experiences large-scale epidemics. Its paper-based surveillance system and the difficulties of circulating information in precarious situations lead to long delays in reporting epidemic alerts. Intervention teams from MSF or the Ministry of Health often arrive too late and very rarely have a clear picture of the health situation, making effective intervention and preventive actions difficult.

The early identification of an infectious disease epidemic allows for a faster and targeted response. This could limit the transmission of the disease, and would, thanks to faster management, reduce mortality. The MSF Foundation and its partners have strengthened existing surveillance systems – at community, peripheral, regional and national levels by developing and then deploying digital platform, suitable for areas where internet connection is extremely limited : Alert Covid 19 and Alert Niger. It contributes to the fight against epidemics by improving the system for detecting and reporting alerts.
