Launch of the Mobile Laboratory for rapid testing for infectious diseases in Tashkent and Tashkent Oblast

MSF and the Republican Center for Combating AIDS launched a mobile laboratory for rapid testing for a number of infectious diseases. The laboratory is located in a specially equipped bus. It aims to facilitate easier access to rapid testing for HIV, hepatitis C and sexually transmitted diseases, and can be used in hard-to-reach places for testing people who do not yet have direct access to testing. Now the laboratory serves the territory of Tashkent and its surrounding region. In the future, the service area could be expanded.

Additional Information / Shotlist Médecins Sans Frontières has been providing support in Uzbekistan for more than 20 years. In close cooperation with the Ministry of Health of the country, the organization contributes to improving the diagnosis and treatment of people with tuberculosis, including drug-resistant forms of the disease, and HIV.
In Tashkent, the organization cooperates with the Ministry of Health in the framework of a project aimed at increasing the availability of comprehensive care for HIV patients co-infected with tuberculosis, sexually transmitted infections and hepatitis C using the "one stop shop" model. This model allows people living with HIV to be screened for these key opportunistic infections on the spot, rather than sending them additionally to other medical institutions.
