Timergara, Lower Dir.

On 31 January 2021, Doctors Without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) completed the handover of its services in the Timergara district headquarters (DHQ) hospital to the Department of Health (DoH), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. MSF started working in Timergara back in 2009, and over the years supported the district headquarters hospital’s emergency department and offered comprehensive emergency obstetric and neonatal care. MSF teams have also undertaken health promotion activities, psychosocial counselling and supported the hospital's blood bank, laundry, sterilisation and waste management areas. As well as the work in the hospital, MSF responded to a number of natural disasters and disease outbreaks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over the years, including but not limited to: floods in 2010; measles and dengue outbreaks in 2013 and 2014 both; floods and earthquake in 2015 and 2016 respectively; and COVID-19 in 2020. The gradual of handover of activities to the DoH started in March 2020 with the emergency room, and followed in August 2020 with the newborn unit. The final phase is the handover of the maternity and other support services in January 2021.
