Doctors Without Borders have been conducting search and rescue missions since 2015.
Over the past six years we have observed this humanitarian crisis deteriorate even further.
As a medical humanitarian organization,
MSF is returning at sea to save lives.
We are returning at sea today
because European state actors are failing to address this crisis.
We are returning at sea with our ship the Geo Barents.
Rescuing people at sea is a duty.
In the last years MSF has borne witness
to the dramatic human costs
of these policies of non-assistance.
MSF is going back at sea to save lives
and provide emergency medical care,
but equally as much we aim to give a voice
to primary witnesses of the situation in the central Mediterranean.
Whatever their backgrounds or their stories,
no matter who they are,
they're human beings in danger at sea,
needing to be saved.
This is part of who we are as MSF,
and why we are back at sea.
