On 3rd October, 22 people were killed and 37 wounded when the MSF trauma hospital in Kunduz was bombed by the US forces.
MSF has called for an independent investigation into the attack.
I think it’s the same for everyone. We all imagine that in a war zone, it’s the last place that’s going to be attacked. It’s also where wounded people can come, whatever side they’re on. In the case of what’s just happened, when everyone knew where the hospital was and they all had the GPS coordinates, to have to say to yourself that, in spite of all this, it was bombed, is totally unbelievable. And hearing the Americans talk about collateral damage and then the Afghan spokesman justifying the attack, which means they’re acknowledging that they’ve just deliberately bombed a hospital because for them it was a Taliban hideout, well, they’re admitting to the whole world that it’s a war crime – because they knew there were patients and doctors inside. That’s something we simply can’t accept and we won’t listen to this kind of argument until we’re given a full explanation of what happened.
