In Ras al Nabaa neighbourhood in Beirut, two buildings were put on lockdown by the Lebanese authorities after more than 70 migrant workers tested positive to COVID-19. The two buildings were home to almost 400 refugees and migrants who did not have proper access to basic necessities like food or water. Local organisations and some mosques donated food and supplies that were dropped off at the door step of the two buildings. When picking up the donations, migrants and refugees had to face insults from some of the neighbourhood’s inhabitants, asking them to go back inside the building and to close the windows. MSF ran daily medical check-ups for over two weeks to respond to the medical needs of the building’s residents and provided them with awareness and mental health support. During their intervention, the MSF team witnessed the stigma that migrants and refugees in the area were facing.
