At first I had a fever.

I was coughing all the time and I wasn’t sleeping well.

I kept on going to the health centre in Jorey refugee camp.
They gave me medication but I wasn’t getting any better.

I saw the doctor three times or more but my weight kept on dropping.

My relatives took me to MSF’s hospital in Al Kashafa. They took a sputum sample.

John Jimis, 28, has been a refugee in Sudan since 2017

after fleeing the civil war in neighbouring South Sudan.

He has tuberculosis.

Many refugees like John go months without being diagnosed and therefore without treatment.

John weighed just 45 kg when he arrived at MSF’s hospital.

Now I’ve recovered.
After two months, I went back to the hospital and they took my sputum again.

When I went back, my weight was 54 kg.

My weight continues to increase.
The doctor has changed my medication to start the next phase of treatment.

I’m taking the medication now. I can walk easily and I’m fit and healthy, thanks be to God.
