South Sudan has been gripped by renewed conflict since early 2025, marked by escalating fighting between government and opposition forces and intensified intercommunal violence. Civilians have been disproportionately affected, facing repeated displacement, widespread insecurity, and the collapse of already fragile health and basic services. Many families have been forced to flee with little warning, lacking access to medical care, food, clean water, and protection. Recent escalations in Upper Nile and Jonglei states have triggered a new wave of displacement, with thousands fleeing active fighting and seeking safety in and around Chuil in Jonglei state. Humanitarian needs in these areas far exceed available services, leaving displaced communities exposed to disease, malnutrition, and ongoing insecurity.
