MSF Lebanon is launching a new communication initiative titled “خارج الإطار | Out of Frame”, a recurring explainer package designed to highlight humanitarian and medical crises that are often overlooked or insufficiently understood by audiences.

Each initiative will combine a long-form explainer video and a written article, offering audiences a clearer and more accessible understanding of complex humanitarian contexts where MSF works. Through this format, the initiative aims to unpack the realities that shape people’s daily lives in crisis settings: barriers to healthcare, deteriorating living conditions, gaps in humanitarian response, and the medical consequences witnessed by MSF teams on the ground.

“Somalia: How Do Crises Collide?” Will be the first context covered in the series.

Produced in collaboration with the Somalia FCM, the package will explore how multiple crises are converging simultaneously in the country, including prolonged drought, widespread displacement, armed conflict, collapsing health and nutrition services, disease outbreaks, and severe funding shortfalls for humanitarian response.

Somalia entered 2025 facing a deepening humanitarian emergency. Millions of people have been affected by prolonged drought and repeated failed rainy seasons, while insecurity and displacement continue to disrupt livelihoods and access to services. At the same time, humanitarian funding has sharply declined, forcing the closure or reduction of hundreds of health and nutrition facilities across the country.

Through this first episode, “Out of Frame” aims to contextualize Somalia’s crisis beyond headlines, explaining how intersecting factors, environmental shocks, conflict, displacement, and declining humanitarian funding combine to produce severe health consequences.
