Sokoto Noma

Since 2014, Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has been providing support to the Sokoto Noma hospital with several activities for people affected by noma, including noma survivors and their families. Currently, MSF, working with the Nigerian government, has conducted over 1,600 major reconstructive surgeries for 1,073 noma patients through 33 surgical missions, with 99 of the surgeries being performed on 89 patients in 2025 alone. On the 20th November 2025, under the theme ‘Ending Noma Through Strengthening Intersectoral and Global Cooperation,’ MSF joined communities, leaders, and partners to raise awareness, strengthen cooperation, and renew the fight to end Noma.
