Maryam Saidy is midwife activity manager in MSF's Khost hospital, Afghanistan. She oversees a team of 150 midwives, midwife supervisors and midwife assistants.
"I joined MSF in 2012 as a medical translator and when I was seeing the midwives, they are helping the patients. The mothers are coming from different communities, they are suffering as patients. So I was every time wondering and thinking, 'Why can’t I help, even as a midwife?' So I started midwifery school, and after that my dreams came true."
After graduating in 2016, Maryam rejoined MSF as an outreach midwife supervisor. "Here internally in MSF, I changed many positions and I grow in MSF."
