On August 4, 2020, Beirut was hit by a monster explosion that obliterated the port area, killed at least 204 people, injured thousands of others, and left hundreds of thousands homeless. The impact of the blast was compounded by a long-standing economic and social crisis, with the country plunged in a lira crisis whose gravity has not been seen since the Lebanese Civil War. Many Lebanese have become extremely vulnerable, particularly as the country's once sturdy health system has struggled to meet their needs. MSF's emergency teams on the ground are working to provide care for the most vulnerable communities in Beirut, particularly the elderly, with assistance taking the shape mainly of home visits and medical consultations. These consultations are offered to all residents who need them, regardless of their nationality.
