Additional Information / Shotlist Between January to April 2026, the number of children suffering from severe acute malnutrition with medical complications in MSF-supported inpatient therapeutic feeding centres in southern Afghanistan has increased by at least 30% compared to the same period over the past three years. This is driven by the worsening food insecurity situation, as a result of significant international funding cuts that led to the closure of many outpatient services, as well as the disruptions in the supply chain of therapeutic food into the country due to border closures linked to geopolitical tensions. With the seasonal peak of malnutrition now underway, MSF is deeply concerned that the situation will only further deteriorate.
