MSF first intervened in 2015 in Manono, Tanganyika, to answer the measles outbreak. The team stayed to provide care for many severely malnourished children. After intercommunal clashes broke out in Tanganyika in December 2016, thousands of people were forced to flee the violence. Some families came to Manono, a place they consider as safe.

The MSF teams are now supporting the Manono General Hospital, as well as 4 health centers who take care of malnourished children and respond to a malaria peak affecting both internally displaced-and local children. MSF supports the Muyumba Port health center, west of Manono city, as well.
