Minawao camp is host to 57 000 refugees from Nigeria. MSF is managing one of the two health centers of the camp, with OPD consultations for adults and children, ambulatory therapeutic feeding center (ATFC), reproductive health, mental health support and health promotion activities. Severe cases are referred to IMC IPD or to Mokolo Hospital for severe cases (the support of which has been transferred to another NGO). The number of consultations has been increasing for a few months, with about 200 consultations per day.
Refugees who have fled Nigeria recount stories of violent attacks, killings, looting and burning villages, and frenzied flight. Some have settled in the camp since 2013 and are growing crops in the back of the house they built.
