Christiana, originally from Nigeria, escaped Libya 8 months pregnant, leaving behind a beauty salon she set up in Tripoli. Daily accounts of violence and fear for her not yet born baby made Christiana and her husband Samuel take an impossible decision to embark on a rubber boat with a hope to get to Italy.
Omar, 15 years old from Gambia left his country fearing for his life. He was involved in a student activist group fighting for freedom of speech, and was targeted by the government. His journey to Libya was far more dangerous and traumatising than he expected.
Mamadou, 17 years old from Gambia was spotted by the MSF doctor on board with signs of trauma. He admitted having witnessed death of the only member of his family still alive– his uncle – in one of the prisons in Libya, where they were both kept for couple of months.

Stories of Christiana, Omar and Mamadou are only a drop in the ocean. Out of all rescued people interviewed no board of Dignity I, 92% were victims of violence in Libya and almost half were kept in prisons, some multiple times.
