Artist Olivier Kugler has traced the route of Syrian refugees from the Domiz refugee camp in northern Iraq to the Greek island of Kos where many are headed.

In the winter of 2014/15 he met and collected their stories set against the continuing war in Syria and the freezing and bleak conditions refugees faced in Iraqi Kurdistan where they had found shelter.

In the Summer of 2015 Kugler followed the trail set by many Syrian refugees to the Greek island of Kos, in their quest to find a more permanent and prosperous future for themselves and their families in Europe.

In the winter/spring of 2016 Kugler followed up the stories of many of those he had met at previous stages of the journey by visiting refugees newly settled in Europe - from Germany to Switzerland to sweden and the United Kingdom.

At each location Kugler collected personal stories and graphic testimony in order to reconstruct the emotional and historical facts relating to each person he later sat down to draw. Their stories are personal and uniquely their yet they speak also of the plight and experience of the many thousands of their fellow countrymen, women and children who see no choice but to leave their homes and flee for their lives.
