Since mid-May, thousands of Nigerian refugees who had fled the conflict between Boko Haram and the Nigerian armed forces have been departing from Cameroon , where they had stayed for several years. They are first brought to Banki camp in Nigeria, close to the Cameroon border, where humanitarian organisations are struggling to cope with the increased needs. On Monday 22 May, more than 1,300 people were transported from Banki to Pulka. This small town of about 42,000 people has been already sheltering thousands of displaced people for months. The two camps set up for IDPs and the homes in Pulka town are all fully occupied. Because of this, more than 1,600 people have been living within the MSF hospital compound for the past two months. Pulka is unable to accommodate any further people, due to severe water shortages in the town and lack of shelter.
