Temalangeni Dlamini is a nursing assistant. In 2012, she was diagnosed with tuberculosis. Following treatment, it was discovered her illness was not responding to any of the available medications. In 2015, she was diagnosed with a more complicated form of drug resistant TB: XDR-TB. Following the successful importation into Swaziland of one of the first new TB drugs in 50 years, Bedaquiline, Temalangeni began a new treatment regimen containing the drug. In 2017, Temalangeni was officially ‘cured’ of the disease, five years after her diagnosis.
