I was nine months pregnant
when they detained me and beat me up.
I gave pre-mature birth inside a prison.
Later, I was released. I knew I had to flee.

Torture destroys a person physically and psychologically,
disrupting their trust in other human beings.
Often, torture leaves no physical scars,
yet the body becomes the container of a broken person.
Since 2014, MSF has run specialised centres to rehabilitate survivors of torture.
We try to heal the deepest scars and rebuild our patients’ trust in humanity.
through teams of psychologists, doctors, social workers, physiotherapists
and cultural mediators.
But MSF’s work is a drop in the ocean.
There are thousands we cannot reach.

Since January 2017, MSF provided specialised care for more than 3,000 survivors of torture.
Many of them were migrants and asylum seekers coming from more than 20 countries.
