Toudjani fled to Ngala camp after an
aerial attack on his village in 2014

A few months ago, he was brutally attacked
by Boko Haram outside the camp

With two other men, we went to the bush
to collect firewood.

We packed it on our bicycles.

They [Boko Haram] came after us,
so we threw away our bicycles

and ran to hide in the bush.

They caught me. They took
my watch and shot me.

Then they went to search for
my friends who were with me.

They said I was just a child,
so they left me.

I was badly hurt and I couldn’t move.

Later, a man from the camp
came to help me.

Toudjani was carried to the
MSF clinic in Ngala

But he needed surgery and
was sent to a hospital in Cameroon

He is now back in Ngala camp,
which hosts 60,000 displaced

who also fled violence from
the different sides of the conflict

They have little prospect of return
