Since 2013, several non-state armed groups have gradually occupied the centre of the country and today it is one of the most tense areas in Mali. In this tense climate, state services and many aid organisations have left the area. Therefore, the local population who is the first victim of the violence and insecurity also gets gradually cut off from healthcare.
MSF is one of the few humanitarian organizations working in the central region of Mopti. Since June 2017, MSF has operations in Douentza’s hospital and since mid-2018, in the primary health centers of the localities of Boni, Hombori and Mondoro. MSF teams support Tenenkou’s hospital and runs mobile clinics in areas such as Niono, Dia, Diafarabé to provide medical care to hard-to-reach communities in the Ténenkou district and facilitate their referral to the hospital when needed.
