Kenya - Marburg hemorrhagic fever (ENG)

MSF’s response to an alert in Kenya.
In October 2017, after a Marburg haemorrhagic fever outbreak was declared in Uganda, near the border with Kenya, MSF teams sent response teams to both sides. In Kenya, MSF conducted contact tracing, training of health staff and set up a small treatment centre in case of need. There were no cases detected in Kenya and MSF withdrew its team from the area on the 14 November 2017.

We are here to support the Ministry of Health on one side to see for the contact tracing, but also to give trainings to the Ministry of Health and also to set up a small management center for viral hemorrhagic fever.

What we are doing here, is really training the health staff and the public health officers who are responsible here for the IPC (Infection Prevention and Control) for the understanding of the disease and how to react. Because often what we see is that the health staff are the first ones who get infected.
