This was the house where MSF hospital staff used to live.
It’s just a pile of rubble now
destroyed in the armed conflict between the Seleka and anti-Balaka.
Three months ago, we woke up to gunfire.
We were scared.
We left everything and ran for it.
We live at the hospital now.

Medical staff and civilians alike have sought refuge in the hospital compound.
MSF has been running a paediatric project here since August 2013.
Isaïe, nurse supervisor for outpatient consultations, is among those who have found refuge in the hospital.

I’ve been sleeping here in my office for three months now.
This is where I sleep.
So this is my office.
I move the examination table and spend the night here.

It’s dangerous getting around the neighborhood and hard to find shelter.
People really are getting killed.
Almost everyone here used to live in the neighborhood.
They came to the hospital in search of safety.
So some people sleep here at night,
and at 6:30, they get up and make room for the medical teams.
