(INTERVIEW)

I was bitten by a snake, during the night, in front of my door.
The goats were crying outside and I opened the door to see why.
I stepped on the snake and then went back in to look for a torch.
(TEXT ON SCREEN)
Nyandeng recognized the snake as a puff adder.
She didn’t kill it because the tradition says her ancestors’ spirits live inside.
And like many other, she tried some traditional healing methods.
(INTERVIEW)
The wound was bleeding and I called my relatives to come.
They came and they dug a hole and I put my foot inside it for 2 hours.
And they buried my foot with soil.
From there, we travelled until the morning to get to the hospital.

The day before she got bitten,
Nyandeng killed a cobra.
During the rainy season, many snakes come
into the houses.
