There is no hygiene here.

There are no hygiene facilities and no one cares.

Most of the time here it rains

and the water comes inside the tent and makes all the blankets and clothes wet.

Three years after the EU Turkey deal,

12,000+ people continue to be trapped in filthy,

inhumane and unsafe ‘hotspots’ of the Greek islands.

We suffer too much here.

For women, there is no safety in our lives here,

when our husband go outside (of the tent) we are scared to go out (alone).

We ran away from war but here it's equally bad, we are scared because of drunk people

because they harass women and children.

In Moria ‘hotspot’ on Lesvos this winter

60 % of the children MSF treated got sick

due to the living conditions.

The other ‘hotspots’ are just as bad…

Vathy - Samos

In Vathy on Samos,

4,112 people are living in a space meant for just 648.

Some new arrivals will not have their final asylum interview until 2021.


Vial, Chios

Vial ‘hotspot’ on Chios, is also overcrowded and unsafe.

At night we are freezing from the cold.

There is no electricity, sometimes we get electricity from 2pm to 4pm,

or we get it from 6pm to 12 midnight.

Services are nonexistent – at night there is no water in the bathrooms.

This is the situation we live in.

Even in Athens,

living conditions are a real issue.

This can slow our patients' recovery.

Most of them have suffered different types of violence like

physical, sexual or psychological abuse but they stand all of this

hoping that at the end of their journey, they will find a better life.

So the come here and they once again face violence either from

the police, smugglers or other refugees, whatever,…

and also they have to face difficult problems like accommodation problems

or limited access to health services.

It's 2019 and the EU continues to fail thousands of men,

women and children in search of safety.

This misery needs to end.
