Hi, I'm Nara, I'm a Brazilian and I've been working with MSF since 2017.
Bonjour, je m'appelle Nara, je suis brésilienne et je travaille avec MSF depuis 2017.

Now I'm working on a project in Syria, in Hassakeh. It's a very big and challenging hospital and I'm very happy to be part of this big team.
Je travaille actuellement dans un projet en Syrie, à Hassakeh. L'hôpital est très grand et ce contexte de travail est très stimulant. Je suis vraiment contente de faire partie de l'équipe.

What is your role as ICP manager?
Quel est ton rôle en tant que responsable du contrôle et de la prévention des infections ?

My main goal is to coach and teach the national staff to be able to identify and deal with the infection, prevention and control challenges.
Mon objectif principal est d'encadrer et former le personnel national à identifier et faire face aux défis de la prévention et de contrôle des infections.

Why is IPC so important in MSF?
Pourquoi le contrôle et la prévention des infections est-il important pour MSF ?

The IPC is for every single patient and every single staff that is in the hospital. The staff, the cleaners, the hygienists, the waste management,…
Le contrôle et la prévention des infections concerne chaque patient et chaque personnel travaillant dans l'hôpital. Cela comprend le personnel médical, les agents de propreté, les hygiénistes, le personnel chargé de la gestion des déchets, ...

Everybody that comes inside a hospital has a high risk of infection. And most of the people don't understand that. They only understand hospitals are for patients but they are also for the staff and the staff also get sick.
Toute personne qui entre dans un hôpital a un haut risque d'être infecté. La plupart de gens ne comprennent pas cela. Ils pensent que les hôpitaux sont uniquement destinés aux patients mais ils reçoivent également le personnel hospitalier, qui peut aussi tomber malade.

How can we prevent that? How can we reduce that?
Comment peut-on éviter cela ? Comment peut-on réduire ce risque ?

What are your current challenges?
Quels sont tes défis actuels ?

Implementing the vector control, mosquito nets for each patient, changing off the dressing in the OT, making sure the caretakers understand the hygiene among this kind of patients, working together with health promotion, working together with the nurses are the main focus of our team right now.
Les principales priorités de notre équipe actuellement sont la mise en place de la lutte antivectorielle, l'installation de moustiquaires pour chaque patient, le changement des pansements dans la salle d'opération. Il est aussi essentiel de s'assurer que les soignants comprennent les enjeux d'hygiène pour les patients opérés, et de travailler en collaboration avec les équipes de promotion de la santé et les infirmiers.

What is it like to work in Syria?
A quoi ressemble le travail en Syrie?

One of the things that I really like about working in the middle-east context, is how people welcome you. Even though you're from Brazil, from France, wherever, you are part of their family on these moments.
L'accueil des gens est l'une des choses que j'aime particulièrement dans le fait de travailler au Moyen-Orient . Que vous veniez du Brésil, de France, ou de n'importe quel autre endroit, dans ces moments-là, vous faites partie de la famille.

What touches you most in your work?
Qu'est-ce qui te touche le plus dans ton travail ?

We had a burn patient that the first time I went to his room, he stood up and started dancing with me.
This was so emotional, now every time he sees me, he stands his hand and move it like we are dancing together.
Je me souviens d'un patient brûlé qui, lorsque je suis entrée pour la première fois dans sa chambre, se leva pour danser avec moi. C'était un moment fort. Aujourd'hui, à chaque fois qu'il me voit, il se lève, tend ses mains et les agite comme si nous dansions ensemble.

What brought you to MSF?
Qu'est-ce qui t'a amenée à travailler avec MSF ?

I always wanted to do two things in life since I was a kid: help people and travel. MSF just combine the whole thing. It's just MSF! Why am I doing that? Because I don't see myself doing something else!

J'ai toujours voulu faire deux choses dans ma vie depuis que je suis petite : aider les gens et voyager. Avec MSF je peux concilier ces deux choses. C'est MSF! Pourquoi je fais ça ? Parce que je ne me vois pas faire autre chose !
